How We Make Instruments

Our instruments are individually crafted--no templates or automated processes. Each instrument has a unique shape, character and sound deriving from its woods.

Hardwood bodies and backs are cut from walnut, cherry, maple, padauk or bloodwood.  Soundboards are red cedar, Spanish cedar or aspen.  Every combination creates its own sound, ranging from robust to bright.

Barnwood instruments are made entirely from reclaimed barn siding.  Naturally aged and weathered over generations,  these instruments preserve the look and sound of unsheltered outdoor life.

Finishes are minimal, just linseed oil and paste wax.  All finishes are applied, rubbed, and buffed by hand. We strive to highlight wood's authentic character rather than improve or cover it.   The results please the eye and caress the hand.
